Classes are available from Beginner to Advanced and are offered from age 3 through adult. All classes will consist of a warm-up, across the floor and center combinations with a strong emphasis on technique.

Workshop I: (Ages 3-4) These classes meet once per week for one hour. Students will work on fundamentals of Ballet and basic French terminology through fun-filled song and dance routines. Tap is also introduced to teach rhythm and moving in time to music. There will be tumbling and creative movement time to improve balance and coordination.

Workshop II: (Ages 5-6) These classes meet once per week for one hour. Students will continue to perfect and build upon the skills learned in Workshop I.

Workshop Advanced: (Ages 7-8) These classes meet once per week for one hour and 15 minutes. Students will learn a barre warm-up and increase their ballet terminology.  Jazz is now introduced.

Ballet: All classes will begin with a barre warm-up and stretch. Students will concentrate on technique, turnout, balance and control. Adagio and Allegro work will be added as students advance. Attire: Leotard and tights, optional skirt and pink ballet shoes.

Pointe: This class is offered to students ages 11 and older who have a solid foundation in Ballet. Students enrolled in Pointe must take at least one other Ballet class per week. Instructors will decide when a student is ready for this class. Attire: Leotard and tights, optional skirt and Pointe shoes.

Lyrical: Using the principals of Ballet technique, Lyrical dance focuses on the use of balance, flexibility and control, utilizing the lyrics of mood of the music. Attire: Leotard and tights, optional skirt or tight dance shorts and tan lyrical shoes.

Modern: A free form style of dance with technique based on control, breathing and balance. Students will explore the elements of dance, including time, force and space. Attire: Leotard and footless tights, bare feet.

Jazz: This technique is based on a classical Jazz from Broadway style to contemporary. Class warm-ups include isolations, various progressions and stretching and strengthening exercises. Students will also concentrate on jumps, turns, balance and extensions. Attire: Leotard and tights, optional dance pants and tan slip on Jazz shoes.

Tap: All tap classes will learn beginner to advanced time steps and explore creative rhythm based choreography. Advanced students may choose between Broadway Style or Rhythm Tap. **See instructor for appropriate shoe style.

Hip-Hop: These classes focus on promoting confidence and creativity in an age appropriate fashion. Our teachers "spice up" the choreography to reflect current dance trends, as well as work on coordination and technique as seen in current music video style. Attire: Comfortable dance clothes and jazz sneakers.

Placement: Students are evaluated a the end of the year by all teachers to determine their placement for the fall. Age does no necessarily play a part in determining where a student should be placed. A student may be moved t o a different level class, if the teacher finds that the student is not in the proper class for her ability level.

Dress Code:

Ballet/Pointe: Solid colored body suit, pink or tan tights, optional skirt (no shorts will be permitted)

Lyrical/Modern: Solid colored body suit, pink, tan or black tights skirt or dance shorts

Jazz: Solid colored body suit, tan or black tights, dance shorts or jazz pants

Tap/ Hip-Hop  Comfortable dance clothing

 

Shoes:

Workshop I and II: Pink ballet shoes and black student tap shoes

Advanced Workshop: Pink Ballet shoes, black student tap shoes, tan slip-on Jazz shoe

Ballet: Pink split sole ballet shoes

Lyrical: Tan lyrical shoes

Jazz: Tan slip-on jazz shoe

Tap: Consult  teachers for appropriate shoes

Hip-Hop:  Jazz sneakers

Modern: Bare feet

 Class attire is strictly enforced.  Dancers need to be able to move freely and teachers need to be able to see their bodies in order to make corrections.  No street clothes are permitted in class!  Hair must be pulled back and secured and a leotard and tights must be worn to every class!  Students will not be permitted to attend class if they are not in the proper dance attire.

 It is important that students attend their classes regularly.  Students who are routinely absent, will be expected to schedule private lessons to learn choreography that was missed.   Teachers will not take class time or time from students who attend class regularly  to teach missed choreography to those who are habitually absent, especially during recital preparation.
